“Knowledge is power.”
— Sir Francis Bacon

On my home page, I speak about tapping into your why-power. My why goes back to 2005 when I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer. He was only 61 years old and took impeccable care of himself. My mother, only 50, had breast cancer at the same time. I later witnessed other older family members suffer from cancer, diabetes, heart disease, depression, and anxiety. Thinking I was genetically predetermined to have the diseases of my elders, I was worried about getting older. What would fate have in store for me?

Then, in February of 2015, another why hit me right in the face. My husband and I had become over-indulgent foodies, and I had officially entered obesity. My love for cooking, and our love of indulgent foods, put him in the doctor’s office. He was diagnosed with NAFLD, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The doctor told him, “There is no pill for that. Go home, watch Forks Over Knives and do what it says.” That was it.

In one hour and 36 minutes, we learned how to save him from liver failure. We also learned how to save ourselves from the top health threats that were clearly in our future if we continued down the path we were on. All the dangerous diseases I thought were inevitable, were now not so certain. It was so empowering! And by this time, we had two kids to live for - one three year old, and another on the way. We woke up the next morning, purged the kitchen, and started making changes right away.

Since then, that power has become a passion. As my actual appetite changed, my appetite for learning became insatiable. Discovering the health benefits of a plant-based diet was a total game-changer. We also learned about the positive environmental and animal impacts of going vegan, which made this path an undeniable fit for us. As one door opening can often lead to another, our education did not stop there. Sustainability and low-waste living came into view. We recognized the need to move our bodies more, so we shifted our priorities to include more walking, yoga, and Pilates. We kept making small changes that added up to huge rewards for us, and our children too. Our health risks subsided surprisingly fast and life just got better and far more comfortable.

People around me often ask how I got started and where to learn more. So much so, that I find myself gladly sharing the same resources over and over again. I had always wished for a one-stop-shop and judgment-free space to help me on my journey but never found it. So I figured, maybe I need to make one!

There is so much information out there, that it can be hard to know where to start. Here, I will direct you to the wise, educated, and talented people who have made my life healthier and happier. Having done so much trial and error myself, and having an experienced palette with high expectations for taste, I know these recipes and resources are sure to satisfy. I am sharing my best discoveries to help you save precious time and energy so that you can spend more time simply reaping the benefits.
